This game needs no introduction. I remember first playing this game on the original NES system when I was just a little kid. I loved it. Everything about it. When Nintendo released this game, it was a breakthrough for video games. It was really the first of it's kind. As simple looking as it is, it has everything a good video game should have. It's frustrating, addictive, fun, has hidden secrets, and it's for more than just one player. The replay value will keep you playing for more than just months, and will bring you back to memory land again and again.

This Gameboy release added even more to a already legendary game. Not only can you play the full, original game in full color, just as it was originally made, with all the little secrets, and all the little bugs, but there are a big bad bumping buttload of bonuses. The first one you might notice is the challenge mode. This is even more frustrating than the original. Not only do you have to beat every single level, but you also have to get all the red coins, find the hidden Yoshi egg, and beat the level in a certain time. I've had the game for a year, and I still haven't beat it.

The next bonus in the game is the VS Game. Hook up two GBCs with two SMB DXs, and you can race each other to the flag at the end of each level. You can hit the little white/red boxes to give the person behind you a hard time.

There is also the toy box, which is a little place where you can earn different things as you beat different levels. If you have a Gameboy Printer (which would be kind of nice, but who does?) then you can print out all this different stuff from there. Another thing is the fortune telling, which is about as useful as a Magic 8 Ball. Then there's the calendar...which is pretty cool I guess, but again, useless. But the best thing in the toy box is Yoshi, which you earn by doing something, I can't remember exactly, but it shows you where the Yoshi egg is in the Challenge levels.

Another bonus you can earn as you go along is the You VS Boo mode, which is the same thing as VS Game, but instead of racing someone else, you race Boo. Each time you beat him, he turns a different color, and becomes faster and faster. It gets really hard after a while, but it's still fun.

There are a few things different in Original 1985 than there are in the actual original game. For one thing, the whole game is put out on a map (kind of like in SMB 3) where each time you complete a level, you move forward. And another thing is that you can look up/down when you are playing. And the best change is the fact that when you beat a level then die, you get to continue off from where you died. In the original, you had to start out from the beginning of the world when you died, which really sucked.

If you still haven't played this game before, you are seriously deprived. This is a classic. It started it all. Sure, it doesn't have the best graphics, or the best sound, but without this game having come out in 1985, gaming wouldn't even exist as it does today. You probably wouldn't have your new Dreamcast. Every time I go back to play this game, I get the same enjoyment as I do when I play games like Goldeneye. When it comes down to it, games aren't about flashy graphics, they're about fun. If you're having fun, it's a good game, regardless of the graphics.
