Another lame movie to video game conversion.

Pros: Great voiceovers. Minigames are fun the first time.
Cons: Sound cuts in and out. 3 Repeated mini games. Graphics could be better

The bottom line: Rayman Raving Rabids is just like this game, only way better. This game has 3 minigames and they are boring after the first time playing them.

Happy Feet is based off the new movie by Warner Brothers. And if the fact that it isn't a game based off a movie enough, well, the movie is also a kid's movie. The game starts off during hatching season for the penguins, where a few penguins are watching this egg wanting it to hatch. Suddenly, a penguin's feet emerge from the egg and starts tap dancing. Your job through the game is to do various tasks as the penguin.

The first minigame is a game like DDR. As the track "Shake Your Booty" plays, you have to get the kid out of his egg. With the Wii remote, you will control your penguin's tap dancing. So if an arrow comes up that is pointing down, you have to flick the Wii remote down right when it gets to the top. This gets to be a slight challenge if you are on the hardest difficulty like me, but the only reason it does is the slightly non responsive controls where you flick it at the right time but it doesn't seem to work. Since I was renting it, at first I thought this was all the game was, but I continued playing and I realized it was much more than that.

In the second mini game you swim through an underwater cave type thing. It's really simple because there really isn't anything to crash into, you could probably let go of the Wii remote and still get to the end with no problem. To steer your Penguin you just tilt it to the left to go left, right to go right, up to go down and down to go up. As you steer you have to go through air bubbles to be able to hold your breath under water longer. After your first go through you will have to go through these underwater gates while you play.

The third and final mini game is one where you get on your belly and go down the hill. The "1" button jumps, and tilting your remote left and right steers. It's a fun minigame, but it feels very similar to the swimming mini game, and once again, it is extremely easy to steer, and also extremely easy to get through the level, which is good, because this is made for kids, but even on "hard" it's really not going to be a challenge for anyone, not even kids.
The game is extremely easy to beat, even on the hardest difficulty and it's only a few hours long. You can go back and replay the mini games, but since they are all very similar and they are pretty long minigames, no one will really have the incentive to feel like they need to go back and get a better time.

After these mini games, they just repeat these mini games adding more things you have to go through and you have to get the end faster. While it was lasting, I was thinking "Man these minigames have so much more substance than Rayman: Raving Rabids." They sure do have a lot more to them than Rayman: Raving Rabids, but instead of Raymans huge assortment of minigames, easiness and suitability for kids, this game just has a few easy minigames repeated with suitability for kids, making Rayman a way easier reccomendation to purchase.

The graphics in the game look like a Gamecube game, and since the actual movie uses top notch technology for the graphics, it's pretty wierd looking at a character that is slightly pixelated and dull looking. Don't get me wrong, they don't look bad, but they aren't up to the Wii standards. Each of the minigames have a different level, and they look great. The tap dancing levels have you ontop of land just doing different tap dancing maneuvers as the camera shows you from various points. The underwater levels have you in ice filled caves with falling ice particles all around you. And the sliding levels feature you outside with ice and snow all around you. Most of the textures in the game involve ice and snow, and the different shapes they come in, which makes sense because this is a game with penguins, but they really didn't take a lot of time making the ice look shiny or the snow look realistic.
The sound in the game is top notch for the most part. Every level has a whole lot of voicework for a variety of characters that are directly ported from the Movie. For the dancing scenes, they oddly enough, use disco music. All of the disco music sounds good but when they get to the orchestrated music from the movie they take a certain segment from the song, and loop it. Every time the music loops, which is once every 30 seconds or so, there is about a half second where the music cuts off and then restarts, which sounds really sloppy. The sound in a whole is great because they use actual voice actors and licensed music, but the orchestrated music just puts down the soundtrack just a Wii bit.... okay that pun was a little too far.

The game loses its flavor after 10 minutes when you learn that the game consists of three repeated mini games. The game's difficulty will be easy for everyone, and some people will like that, and some people won't. I would say if you want a mini game game that is suitable for children, check out Rayman, it's hilarious and fun. This is just a quick movie cash in.
