For all of you that may have at one time played or had the privilege of seeing someone play Fifa 1999 then you were lucky. But for all of you that have played or had the privilege of seeing someone play Fifa 2000, then you must have realized that the messiah has arrived! This game, besides Unreal Tournament, has got to be my pick for game of the year. It is certinaly my pick for sports game of the year no matter what people say. There are many things that this game has that makes it the best sports game and by far the best soccer game of the year 2000.
First of all, the opening of the game, although it doesn't matter to the game is really cool. It begins with a little video of some people playing soccer, and then cuts into the awesome theme song. I don't know where EA Sports or the music departement from this game gets their music, but they sure know how to pick 'em! Another part that you will realize when entering this game is that the MLS teams are now available in this game. Of all the soccer games that have come out since the beginning of Major League Soccer no one has ever had the idea to incorporate them into this game. It was a great idea of EA Sports, and unlike some other gaming companies that probably wouldn't have went the extra length to get the licenses, they did this. That means that no matter what team your playing with, MLS, international, Spanish League, or even Portugal's Leagues, you will have their actual names! The only player I know on this game who doesn't have their own name is Ronaldo from Brazil's International team.
Another great part about this game are the many options that are available in this game. First of all, unlike other games where the referees can just have cards or not have cards, Fifa 2000 takes this to another level. In this game you can turn cards on and off, but you can also pick how strict you want the referee to be. If you have him sensitive, and cards turned on, lots of slide tackles that are questionable, are warranted a yellow card. This brings me to another part of the game that is cool, and that is the little videos that happen in the game. When a player is getting a card, he will whine and complain and go down on two knees while the opponents will taunt him for getting ejected, all while the referee is telling him to get up and take it like a man. Other in game videos are viewable for penalties when injuries happen, as well as penalty kicks, and amazing goal celebrations.
The graphics in this game are by far some of the best ever in a sports game. The ground is textured, the grass is greener when it is raining then when the weather is set to hot. There are four shadows when playing a night game, and the shadows during the day get longer and shorter depending on where you are in the stadium. The crowd moves and cheers and the commentary is pretty good too. Julie Foudy and another man do the commentary which at time is pretty cool. Before cup games, Julie Foudy will review your team's key injuries or lack of, goals scorers, and some "keys" to the game for each side. They will also ratttle off some cool things during play. One thing that you do not have in this game is dead air which can be irritating to any true gamer PC or otherwise.
There are also many moves that you can do in this game compared to other games. Step overs, dummies, rainbows and much, much, more are at your finger tips in this game. It also is very supportive of almost any kind of controller and doesn't require your computer to be maxed out with amazing specs! Overall, if you like soccer then this game is a must. If you are not a soccer fan, then buy this game when the price goes down, so you can tell your grandkids that you played Fifa 2000!
