FIFA 2000 is a very realistic simulation and if you're into that, well you are a very lucky person. This is one of the few games that is completely thought out. Nothing seems to be thrown together, or rushed. The graphics are amazing, the players' movements seem completely lifelike. An amazing job considering that the PlayStation is the old man on the block now. The sounds of the game are life like. The crowd noise adds atmosphere, especially when they start singing. When a dirty play is committed, they whistle. Amazing. The play by play is weak, but that can be easily turned off in the menus. The menus are not intuitive because of the lack of text, and ultimately because of the overwhelming amount of customization. It loads a little slow, but with all the data,(the game has tons of players, teams and countries) it's understandable.

The gameplay itself is what sets this game apart. One of the great things is the "radar" that allows you to "see" players who are off screen. Also, the pass radar, informs you of the safety of passes. There aren't any perceptible patterns, where you can score easily on the computer or where the computer scores on you after you've completely dominated it. Rather, high percentage plays are how the goals are scored. NOTHING seems fluke or glitchy at all. The one drawback about this game is that there are way too many bicycle kicks.

Like any sports game, it's more fun if it's multiplayer, but one player is very good too. The computer/AI is pretty impressive and I have yet to reach the allstar level.

This game is going to primarily appeal to fans of the sport. The amount of players and the ability to execute trades will definitely make any soccer maniac happy. It's also a great way to familiarize yourself with all the players and increase your interest in the sport. Maybe one other improvement would've been to allow the names of the players appear when they touch the ball.

I have found however, that few people are excited about playing this game because soccer is somewhat foreign to people. Because of it's faithfulness to being a simulation, there is very little over the top gameplay, and unlike hockey, there is no body checks to whet the appetite.

So is this a knock about the game? no, it is a cultural problem and supposedly this game is the top seller in Europe. I believe that this is EAsports' best designed game. If you are into soccer then you need this game. If you only kind of like soccer then maybe you should think twice.
