FIFA + Playstation = good

Pros: It's just like playing soccer but less dirty
Cons: It's harder to make millions playing video games

I used to love playing FIFA soccer for Sega back in the early nineties when the players were unrecognizable blotches of color and the gameplay involved pushing the 'A' button as fast as you can. As a matter of fact, I still do - we've got an old Sega and I go through the whole world cup, instant replaying and analyzing every goal even though the only way I ever scored was to push 'C' right outside the 18-yard box.

But FIFA 2000 is to the old FIFA what virtual reality is to Pong. I love to play soccer, to watch soccer, to stare at my soccer ball and think happy soccer thoughts, so I know what I'm talking about here. FIFA 2000 plays like the real thing; the strategies are near identical to what you'd try on the playing field. You could try dribbling through ten men, but if you pass it out to the wings, cross it back in, and head for goal, you have far better chance. You could try pushing the 'A' button over and over again, but you'll end up eating turf while your opponent dances the Macarena in your goal.

If you like soccer, you know what I'm talking about. if you don't like soccer, but like Playstation games, don't fret: this is a real quality sports game, and you don't have to know Maradona from McDonald's to enjoy playing it.

They have hundreds of teams, which is fun because if you're as bad as video games as I am, you can make your kid brother Luxembourg while you play the 1970 Brazilian national team. Many real players are included (note: only the players' likenesses are included - the players themselves could not fit into the cartridge), and the announcers have lots of different cliches, so you don't hear the same junk over and over.

So what are you waiting for, buy the dumb thing. Ole, ole ole ole...
