You play as Yami (the spirit inside the Millennium puzzle) in the beginning. After you defeat (or get defeated by)severak duelists, you go against Heishin, the High Mage. He will defeat you and you will smash the Puzzle. A mage who serves the pharoah's family will seal your soul in the Millennium Puzzle. Next, you get transported 3,000 years into the future and you duel as Yugi Motou. He collects all of the Millenium Items and you get transported back to the time of the Pharoah's. You go around and defeat the Mages (Forest, Sea, Desert, Meadow, etc.). once they are defeated and the Millenium Items they hold collected, you go against Lord Heishen, as he calls himself, and then you have to defeat him to win the game.
