I got this game when it first came out, and I still haven't taken it out of my Playstation. The graphics are amazing, especially in high-definition. Each player's face is crafted perfectly and all their signature mannerisms are there from Iguodala's unbelievable dunks to Lebron's fidgety nervousness (unless I just imagined that). Of course, being on the PS3 means that online play is free as long as you can get your PS3 connected to your network. The game feels great and smooth unlike EA Sports "NBA Live 08." It has updatable rosters downloadable via the internet or a media device such as a memory card reader, which is really great during an always-changing NBA season of acquisitions and waivers. It has an in-depth Association mode for those who like to lead a team from its beginnings to the NBA Finals, complete with an optional fantasy draft as well as a whole slew of original, yet realistic, college players to scout for the future. For those who don't like total control, there is a Season Mode where the management aspect is taken out. Also included, for the first year ever, is the All Star Weekend events such as the Three-Point Shootout and the Slam Dunk Competition, which is comparable to the contest from the earlier NBA Live installments. However, the kinks still need to be worked out as the Slam Dunk Competition gets overly repetitive fast. If that is not enough, you could always challenge players on a playground court to a game of 21, one-on-one, two-on-two, or even full-court five-on-five. NBA 2K8 truly is an excellent sports experience and the best basketball franchise alive right now.
